District News

School Choice

Under the School Choice Act of 2013 and by School Board policy 4.5 the Siloam Springs School District is a “Choice School” for the 2014-2015 school year.

Arkansas students residing outside the District may make written application to attend Siloam Springs Schools by applying on or before June 1, 2014. For information contact the Superintendent’s office at 524-3191.  Certain provisions and restrictions do apply.  


School Calendar Changed
The district calendar was revised again at the February school board meeting to accommodate the days missed due to inclement weather. Please note the quarter end dates that have changed as well.  The official district calendar is listed first in the District Calendars link left .

REMINDER: Keep our kids SAFE!

Act 37 of the 2011 Arkansas General Assembly prohibits drivers from using handheld wireless telephones while operating motor vehicles when passing a school building or school zone during school hours when children are present and outside the building, except in cases of emergency.

Fourth grade Discovery students will attend John Brown University's "Day of Discovery" on Tuesday & Thursday, April 22 and 24.

3rd Grade Merit Trip, Tuesday, May 6
Third grade will attend a Naturals baseball game on Tuesday, May 6, from 9:15-2:30.

Talent Show, Thursday, May 15, 9:00-11:30 a.m.
Southside will be hosting a Talent Show on Thursday, May 15, from 9:00 to 11:30 a.m. at the Middle School Fine Arts building. Come join us to see what talent we have at Southside!

4th Grade Field Day, Monday, May 19
Fourth grade will be enjoying a field day on Monday, May 19, at the Middle School track.

Leader in Me Assembly
On Friday, February 14, the Leader in Me Assembly was held. One of our fourth grade teachers, Mr. Caleb Schultz, is not only teaching about the American Revolution in the classroom, but presented the characteristics of good leadership during the assembly to our third and fourth graders. Thank you, Mr. Schultz, for your excellent presentation! It was awesome stepping back into history with you in costume! Pictured below are the recipients of the Leader in Me t-shirts. These students were chosen by teachers for exhibiting leadership skills.



Dan Skoff Presents the Weather
On Tuesday, November 5, meteorologist Dan Skoff, from KNWA TV, taught our 3rd graders about weather. Then on Tuesday, January 27, Mr. Skoff presented to the 4th graders. Thank you Mr. Skoff for the great information, not only on weather, but also on safety! 


On Friday, January 17, an awesome group of Southsiders participated in the Special Olympics at the Jones Center. Here is a picture of our students at the Floor Hockey Special Olympics Event.

Southside Spelling Bee Winners
Southside's Spelling Bee took place on Friday, December 13. Our top champion, Tyler, will be heading to Northwest Arkansas Community College (NWACC) to participate in the Benton County Spelling Bee on Saturday, January 18, which is the next level of competition. Christian is our runner-up and alternate in case Tyler is not able to compete. Third grade champion is Keagan. Fourth grade champion is pictured.

Teacher of the Year 2013-2014 
Charity Miller started teaching third grade in the Siloam Springs School District in 2005. During her first year, Charity taught a self-contained classroom as part of Southside East. When Southside East and West merged into Southside Elementary, Charity taught literacy for three years. The past four years she has had the privilege of teaching literacy in the all girls gender specific classroom. Read more...
